A Dozen Papercuts
It's the quiet night that breaks me. I cannot stand the sight of this familiar place. It's the quiet night that breaks me, like a dozen papercuts that only I can trace. All my books are lying useless now. All my maps will only show me how to lose my way. Oh call my name; you know my name. And in that sound, everything will change. Tell me it won't always be this hard. I am nothing without you, but I don't know who you are.

Harry Potter - The Boy Who Lived. Harry spent his time after the war recovering . . . chiefly by being a drunken, absentee arse. But he's cleaned up his act these days and is once again a useful member of society. He's joining the Auror program soon, and is dating Ginny Weasley - which has made him the target of much red-headed brotherly suspicion. He is still a good boy who does what's right, and still best friends with Hermione and Ron, whom he lives with at Grimmauld Place.

Arthur Weasley (NPC'd) - Patriarch of the Weasley clan, Arthur is at something of a crossroads right now. Most of his children have left the nest, and he's been made a grandfather for the first time - three times over. Altercations with his son and new Minister Percy led to him leaving his job there. He is currently spending most of his time at home with his wife, tinkering in his garage - which does not have a new flying car, except that it does - and visiting with his children when they drop by. He is a kind, somewhat absent-minded man who is endlessly generous with those he loves - but who does, underneath the easy-going veneer, have a redhead temper after all, as Percy found out.

Alicia Spinnet - Recently returned from the States, where she was playing Quidditch for the New York Knucklers, Alicia was picked up by the Kestrels and is working on picking up old friendships again and making new ones. She's a bit of a huge flirt and while she'll happily make friends, she avoids relationships like the plague. She tends to avoid discussing things that bother her and can be a tought nut to crack for the serious stuff. Cheerful, outgoing, and casual, Alicia gets along with most anyone.

Gideon Crumb - Bagpipe player for the Weird Sisters, Gideon hasn't let fame go to his head . . . mostly. Easy-going and fun he pretends to drink while really staying dry and takes women and life as they come. His biggest concern in life is making sure his mother is taken care of, and the band. Most of his friends are also in the band, but he has a few others he's close to outside of the Sisters' circle.

Romilda Vane - In her seventh year at Hogwarts, Romilda fully expects this to be the best year of her life, despite a few snafoos along the way. Slightly vapid but basically goodhearted, Romilda is the kind of girl who reacts before she thinks about things, and sometimes never gets to the thinking part at all. Pretty and outgoing with perhaps a touch of snobbery, Romilda has her life all planned out already . . . or at least the part where she marries Myron Wagtail and dies happy.

Michael Corner - Confident, brash, arrogant, talented, handsome and brilliant and more aware of it then he has any right to be, Michael Corner should be riding high on life. But a few sharp turns, including the death of his fiance Eloise about a year ago and the recent dissolution of another relationship have left him with more time for introspection then he might like. His well-known obsession with Quidditch blossomed into a career and now Michael just has to gather the pieces of his life back into a cohesive whole. He's got good friends and good heart, so the odds seem to be in his favor.

Thorfinn Rowle - Thorfinn is determined, patient, compulsive, dedicated and close-mouthed. These qualities have kept him alive throughout almost two decades of being a Death Eater, an Auror and through a regime change in the powers that he aligned himself to so many years ago. His attention to detail and quick-mindedness has made him a valuable asset in the Auror office and enabled him to use that knowledge for the benefit of his true allegiances again and again. There's more then one mysterious Auror disappearance buried in files somewhere over the years that can be attributed to Thorfinn's careful manipulation of facts and figures.

Remus Lupin - Remus Lupin is a desperate young boy. Desperate for acceptance, for social interaction, for learning and for friendship. He will put up with much and allow the people that he calls friends to walk all over him and take much advantage of him, all from wanting so badly to bask in their approval. Intelligent, responsible and imbued with entirely too much common sense for a boy his age, Remus will throw it all out the window if it means he'll get a clap on the back from Sirius or praise from James for going along and helping with some insane plot or prank. When he is with the Marauders he doesn't have to think about the Wolf, or that side of him that relates to all things with the Wolf. Despite these faults, Remus is overall a cheerful, accommodating sort of person who is easy to get along with, helpful and tries hard not to be judgmental or biased towards people, having experienced enough of it himself.

Regulus Black - Second son and second place in his parents' affections until the day Sirius shamed the family by being sorted into Gryffindor, Regulus spends his life trying to life up to, and surpass, his brother's shadow. He is determined to be the perfect heir and live up to his family's expectations for him in a way Sirius never did. He professes scorn and hatred for his brother, but beneath it he wonders why his brother abandoned him when Sirius left for school. He is reserved, acidic, and somewhat lonely, even if he doesn't admit it.

Emmeline Vance - Clever, studious, and resourceful, Emmeline is a typical Ravenclaw with a dash of Gryffindor guts that keeps her from letting herself be truly dull. Head of the dueling club and one of Ravenclaw's better students - which is saying something - she has her shy moments, but is, for the most part, a friendly girl who maybe needs to get out a little more and study a little less.

Galvin Gudgeon - Galvin is happy go lucky, a bit goofy, sweet, slightly dorky and sometimes too much of a smartass for his own good. He's awkward around girls, acts like a jerk when he's embarrassed and has a slow temper that sparks hot and wild when it's finally been ignited. He can hold a grudge like no one's business. He's fiercely protective of his siblings, unless it's him doing the poking, then all is fair game. He curses at odd times, but is very polite and respectful to adults. Blood is just something that tends to come out of his many cuts and scrapes, not a social standard as far as he's concerned and the whole concept of blood purity strikes him as being pretty damned absurd.

Lucius Malfoy - Manipulation is Lucius' creed. What he doesn't want to do for himself, either because it is beneath him or because he does not want to get caught, he will lie, cheat, scheme or bribe to get someone else to do it for him. He was born to privilege and he considers it his due, and will accept nothing less then the best. He has a burning hatred for those who have 'stolen' their magic by accident of birth and is one hundred percent behind his Dark Lord's plans. He wants to live up the Malfoy name, make his father proud of him, and 'fix' the wizarding world for the glory of his Dark Lord. Lucius conveniently ignores the irony that although he sees himself as a leader and one who will bow to no one, he has made himself subservient to Voldemort. Lucius isn't stupid, after all. Voldemort is the most powerful wizard he's ever met. It's better to be following that sort of power then to be crushed underneath its heel.

Jonothon 'Meltdown' Starsmore *PB: Christian bale

Anne-Marie Darkholme (Mystique) *PB Anna Paquin*

Jean Grey-Summers - Newly married to Scott Summers and returned once from death under Alkali Lake, Jean is a new woman in many ways. The powerful Phoenix persona is integrated with her, but can be somewhat difficult to control. Despite it's influence, Jean is a caring, sensitive woman who loves all of her students and her husband dearly - even if she, like all of the teachers, does have her favorites amongst the student body. Jean and Scott recently moved into their own cottage on Xavier's expansive property and are hoping to start a family of their own in addition to the extensive family they have at the mansion.

Kurt Wagner - Formerly the "Amazing Nightcrawler" a staple of the Zürich circus, Kurt now spends his time at Xavier's as a full-fledged member of the X-Men and on-again, off-again lover of Ororo "Storm" Munroe. His calm, zen personality took a severe hit when he found out his mother was the ruthless second-in-command of the Brotherhood, Mystique, and took a further hit when Mystique forced his hand and took him on a world-wide trip designed to show him the truth of what humanity is willing to do to mutant kind. Despite her efforts, he maintained his faith in humanity and God - even if he is somewhat more steely and ruthless himself, these days.

Piotr Rasputin - Strong, centered, and unflappable, Piotr is one of the most reliable of the new generation of X-Men. Beneath the metal veneer though, he is sensitive, softhearted, and a romantic. An artist at heart, he wants nothing more than romance and love and a world where such things are acceptable regardless of your faith, your race, or your genetics. He is currently involved in an odd opposites-attract sort of relationship with the one and only Jubilation Lee, who manages to make his very stable world a good deal more chaotic, most of the time. Not that he seems to mind.

Jeanne-Marie Beaubier - Originally coming to Xavier's for help with her powers, Jeanne-Marie was met with a startling revelation when she found her long-lost twin brother, Jean-Paul was a teacher and former student there. Despite his less-than-warm reception to this news, she decided to stay, for the time being, anyway, both for her own good - as her powers have recently become somewhat unstable - and in an attempt to get to know her brother, and the others at Xavier's. She is an intelligent, educated young woman, and former member of the Canadian mutant team Alpha Flight, and a sometimes model who remains fairly down to earth . . . if a little haughty with those she doesn't know well.

Julian Keller - One of the leftovers from Strykers mutant experiments, Julian Keller is the product of a privledge upbringing, including a cocky attitude and brash confidence that gets him in quite a lot of trouble sometimes. Even his time spent in the facilities run by Stryker's pet projects haven't dimmed his ability to get himself into trouble. It has however, left him a lot less trusting and defensive, not to mention with an inflated estimation on just how powerful he is. Effectively disowned and left with disposable income, Julian traveled anywhere he particularly felt like for the last year or so, wasting time, money and his life in an aimless pursuit of something he couldn't quite define. He'd stick around someplace until his own nature got the better of him and he'd be in some sort of trouble or another. Finally, he ended up making waves near Xavier's school and got brought to the Professor, mistaken for one of his students. There is more then one surprise waiting Julian inside those rather large walls.

Annalise Browning - Snow White. Annalise embodies the sweet, generous and naive spirit of Snow White. Previous incarnations have included a nurse during World War I, a midwife in Victorian times, and medicine woman during the early settlement of the US territories. She embraces her identity as a Tale and while she likes to think she's a bit more independent and intelligent this time around, she still gets caught up in the fact that she simply is too trusting. Her generous giving nature will get her hurt again and again, unless there is someone looking out for her and this time around, there are no red-hot iron shoes to make the Evil Queens of the world dance in. Still, her experience in her own life, watching her father grief for her mother, makes her less inclined to wait for a Prince, and more apt to fall for the Hunter that shows her mercy.

Timothy Austin - Paul Bunyan. For the most part, Timothy is vaguely uncomfortable with his Tale. To him, the stories of Paul Bunyan are little more then the ridiculous exaggerations about a man that more then likely never existed and he hardly thinks it should grant him any sort of access to Tales from classic literature and folklore. He is possibly even just a tad 'starstruck' by the others, although he does a fairly good job of hiding that fact. He's embarrassed by his own Tale really and prefers to just sort of sweep it under the rug. He also doesn't see the similarities, what with his tendency to exaggerate, his love of nature and the rustic side of life. He does however have the ability to laugh at himself, having purchased a Great Dane named Blue who he takes with him pretty much everywhere.

Véronique Nicolette Guichon, aka Nicci - Puss in Boots. Puss has been many people over the years, including a carpetbagger after the end of the Civil War, an infamous con man in the early 1900's and an ill-fated politician in the Cabinet during Nixon's presidency. In this incarnation, Nicci has come to embody the manipulative side of Puss, the sly, smart feline who knew how to put himself in the right place at the right time and take full advantage. Not as ruthless as previous incarnations, she doesn't walk all over people to get what she wants, and she usually is working towards a goal that will help someone else, rather then herself directly. Not that she doesn't take her cut. After all, she doesn't want to chase down mice forever. She revels in her role and has no problem flaunting her cleverness when it comes time to swap stories.
